I have been a Governor for over 20 years in a variety of schools in Hampshire, across the age ranges. I have, during that time, served in a variety of roles - parent, staff, (I used to work in the office on the Infant site), community and Local Authority.
I am currently a Governor at a Hampshire secondary school.
At Alderwood I chair the Resources committee which looks at finances and buildings.
My personal interests include walking my dog, reading and knitting.
I am a semi-retired company director with my own quality management consultancy business and wanted to dedicate some of my newly found spare time to benefit the local community – particularly the young people in the Aldershot area.
Living locally I choose to apply for a co-opted governor position at Alderwood School as I consider the pupils, senior school staff, teaching and support staff, deserve the positive support I believe I am capable of providing.
This newly created multi-site school will face numerous challenges in the future, including the constant threat of cut backs on funding for education, therefore will require the best support we can give the school in preparing the pupils for adult life.
Having previously held a governor position in a community senior school several years ago I have always shared the values and principles adopted by the Alderwood school.
I can also confirm that I have a vested interest in the activity and performance at Alderwood School in that 2 of my grandchildren are pupils at the Junior and Senior school sites respectively where they are receiving a good education and who are very happy with school life.
CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE!
My name is Dorothy and I have a son at Alderwood Senior School.
I have always worked in health care, first as a nurse from a student through to being a ward manager. I then moved into management and I have worked in several different hospitals in London. I currently work with very disabled people with brain injuries at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability in Putney. Outside of work I enjoy socialising and cooking. I do Scottish Country Dancing and I am also involved with Badshot Lea (Youth) Football club.
My name is James Scarlett and I am the Vice Chair of the Resources Committee and Special Educational Needs (SEN) Governor.
I am really excited about the new Alderwood School and how it can make a real positive impact for children of all ages in our local community. As SEN Governor, it is really important that the school is able to provide great learning facilities and support for all children whatever their individual needs.
In my working life, I am a Chartered Financial Planner and I have a daughter that goes to Alderwood Junior.
I look forward to working with the school, parents and other stakeholders of the school to make it the best it can be.
My name is Brian Cainey and I have been a Co-opted Governor for nearly 3 years. I have 2 daughters at Alderwood Secondary School, who both previously attended Belle Vue and Newport Schools.
I work as a Road Safety Officer for Hampshire County Council and my main role involves supervising School Crossing Patrol Officers in the Rushmoor, Hart, Basingstoke, East Hants, Havant and Test Valley districts.
I have been a governor since April 2017 when the school became Alderwood and I am also the DTG for our governing body.
For 7years I have been a team member at the Infant school and have worked throughout all of the year groups. My current role is as a Special Needs Assistant working 1-1 with a child as well as being the Reading Partner supporting the BRP programme we provide at our school.
Before working at the school I worked full time as a Manager within the Optical industry. I was there for almost 20years in a challenging environment so I feel I have a lot of different skill sets I can bring to my role as a governor.
I am also a mum to a 13 year old girl so I can understand the difficulties being a parent can bring especially with the challenges of society and the peer pressure they face today.
I am proud to support Alderwood School as a governor and look forward to watching your children grow and achieve the best they can be.
